I've heard that a whole generation of young people have been killed in the earthquake in Asia. This must be unbearable for those women who are past child bearing age. There is a silver lining though. Many relatives left Asia and are in Europe and elsewhere. When the tsunami struck on the coast of India it also wiped out whole villages, including Velanganee. Later I remembered that a hundred and fifty years ago, hundreds of people left those villages to work in Africa and the Caribbean. I like to think those families have not been wiped out.
